Please be aware that at present, there is no student parking on campus. In time there will be extensive parking in the town centre, which will be opposite the school.

We encourage students to walk, cycle or use the guided bus where possible.

Walk: There are pathways and greenways throughout the Northstowe Development. These are developing all the time, as the water parks begin to open more and more road free routes become available.

Cycle: There are cycle ways throughout the development, although these are not all open at present, there are however a number of greenways, which make beautiful cycle routes. The cycle way directly leading to campus is fully open. There are Sixth Form only cycle racks that are accessible all day.

Bus: The town of Northstowe is served by the guided bus. At present this is at the Longstanton Park and Ride and at the village square. By 2025, it is hoped that the guided bus will pass through the town on the pre-built guided bus routes. The stop for the Education Campus will be opposite the village square. The guided bus connects us to St Ives and Swavesey as well as to Central Cambridge.

Car: The Sixth Form is accessible via the Longstanton by-pass and Station Road, and is also now directly linked to Hatton’s Road (B1050) and the A14 at the Bar Hill junction.

Northstowe Secondary College was built to serve the local community and the intention is that all students within our catchment area of Northstowe and Longstanton will be able to either walk or cycle to College.  As a result, there is no College transport available for any students at Northstowe.

If you have applied for your child to attend NSC and live out of our catchment area, the Local Authority will expect you to make your own arrangements for your child to get to and from College for the duration of their time with us.

Safe Cycling

The safety of our students is very important to us.  We ask any student intending to cycle to and from College to sign our Northstowe Cycling Permit, agreeing to follow the conditions and safety rules in place. The Permit also has to be signed by the student’s parent/carer, and we kindly ask for families’ support in ensuring children are following the terms of the agreement.

You can download a copy of the Northstowe Cycling Permit below – once completed this should be handed in to your child’s House Office.

As Northstowe is growing there are many developers and builders onsite.  We liaise closely with the developers and the local council, to ensure a safe route to school.  Children should ensure that they use the cycle lanes provided.  We also ask for children to wear Hi-Vis jackets / clothing so that they can easily be seen. It is essential that all students cycling to school wear a helmet.

We have regular reminders in our assemblies about safe cycling and road safety.

At the College we have numerous bike racks for students to be able to lock their bikes during the school day.

Tiger Bus Pass

Great news for young people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough!

The Combined Authority has launched the Tiger bus pass, offering bus fares for just £1 for those under 25. This could be a vital tool for young people to access a range of opportunities to widen their experiences of the workplace over the summer giving a real boost to their understanding of the world of work in their region.

The new Tiger bus pass is free of charge and designed to make public transport more affordable for young people, helping them travel to school, college, training, work, shopping, and social activities.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Combined Authority to revamp public transport in the region.

Applying for your free Tiger bus pass is simple and quick:

  • Upload a photo and proof of age.
  • Receive your Tiger pass free of charge – a credit card-sized, tiger-branded card that’s easy to recognise and use.

Electric Scooters (E-Scooters)

It is illegal to use an e-scooter:

E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988. Any person who uses a privately owned powered transporter on a public road or other prohibited space is in breach of the law, committing a criminal offence and can be prosecuted. If you use an e-scooter illegally, you could face a fine, and the e-scooter could be impounded.  We therefore do not wish to have these vehicles on the college site.

E-scooters therefore should not be used as a mode of transport to school at all. We have invited Cambridgeshire police to visit school to answer any queries you may have on this subject.
