Core Maths Course

What is it?

Core Maths is intended for students who have passed GCSE Mathematics at Grade 4 or better, but who have not chosen to study AS or A Level Mathematics. It can be studied in a single year or over a two-year period and can be taken alongside A Levels or other qualifications, including vocational courses.

It focuses on applying mathematical thinking to real-life contexts including personal finance, data analysis, and problem-solving, making it highly relevant to a wide range of careers and further study.

Assessment

You’ll explore how mathematics applies in practical situations for example managing budgets and financial planning, interpreting data and statistical reports, and using spreadsheets and models to solve real-world problems.
Assessment is through final written exams, testing your ability to use and apply mathematical ideas rather than memorise formulae.
