
Design and Technology: Product Design
Are you creative? Do you look at the world and wonder if there are ways to improve the everyday devices we use? Do you have good spatial awareness? This is the course for you, you will consider design, from the idea to its production and you will use what you learn to design your own pieces.
Course Overview
Design and technology is part of everyday life and is constantly evolving. This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers – especially those in the creative industries. They will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing prototypes of their choice. Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers. This single A Level qualification is modern and relevant, so students can learn about contemporary technologies, materials and processes, as well as established practices.
Entrance Requirements
- Five GCSEs at Grade 4 including:
- Grade 4 in GCSE English Language
- Grade 4 in GCSE Maths
- Grade 5 in GCSE Design Technology or related subject
As with all A Level subjects, students must be prepared to carry out a considerable amount of private study and attend support sessions when appropriate.
