Primary Attendance
Attendance at school is very important both for the wellbeing and future success of all children. Children who have good attendance are more likely to: get better jobs in the future, make stronger friendships and have good self-esteem and confidence.
Attending school and arriving on time are vitally important in enabling our children to get the best out of their education at Northstowe Primary School. We are committed to supporting families to ensure children regularly attend school so that they can excel in their educational pathway.
We expect all children to be at school, on time, unless there is a valid and understandable reason. Learning opportunities start from 8:30am and it is wonderful to see the children arriving in time for the gates to open and then excitedly go to their class.
The school gates open at 8:30am when children enter school and complete important morning work. The school day starts at 8:45am when the register is completed. If your child arrives after 8:45am, they must request for the gate to be opened. If children arrive after 8:50am they will be marked as Late (L = authorised)
Our morning registers close at 9.15am (maximum 30 mins from opening). If students arrive after this time, they will have missed registration and will be marked as absent. If their reason is unacceptable, they will be marked as U on the register and if their reason was acceptable, an M (medical apt) or a C (other authorised) will be used to mark the register.
If your child is not at school, please let the primary school office know as soon as possible via e-mail or phone call first thing in the morning. Our office assistant will call you if we do not know why your child is not at school.
We want to continue to work with you to ensure the school environment is somewhere your child wants to be and support you in ensuring they can attend every day, on time.
Our intention is always to follow a ‘support first’ approach whenever attendance concerns arise. Part of being able to support families is ensuring you have access to as much information as possible to understand why attending school is important and what happens where absences occur.
We hope you find the following information useful to assist your understanding and help with decision making in respect of your child’s absences from school, should they occur. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you in anticipation of your support to improve attendance levels and progress.
