About Us
Named after Sir James Dyson a British inventor, industrial designer and entrepreneur who has been innovative in the redesigning o household appliances but also a determined campaigner to restore engineering and technical innovation to high esteem in the UK. Initially studying art at the Royal College of Art it was his work at Rotork Controls Ltd, that was the start of his innovating. Crating his own company in 1974 designing the Ballbarrow, he went on to develop he cyclone vacuum cleaner, testing over 5,000 prototypes before creating a successful model. The G-Force became the top-selling vacuum in 1993. He has gone on to continue innovate.
He was chosen because he embodies our school values of Kindness, curiosity and hard work, he also has some powerful messages for young people.
He says:
- Think long term: embrace and encourage failure, he loves failure because it’s how he learns and moves forward.
- Persevere and you will be rewarded, ‘the moment you’re ready to give up, you end up finding what you’re looking for’
- Prioritise research and development: it leads to more progress and innovation
- Relive your younger days: the older we get, the more we get clouded by preconceived ideas about what can and cannot work.
